What inspired you to work in the financial industry?
Having grown up in communist Romania, the financial industry was a completely novel concept for me when I moved to the U.S. more than twenty years ago. From my first finance course in business school though, I was hooked. Since then, I never stopped learning about the role of capital markets in supporting business creation and growth, and how investors can participate in this wealth creation. As a financial industry professional, I now have the opportunity to bring this knowledge to the table and help investors not only reach their goals, but also enjoy peace of mind along the journey.
Why did you join Dowling & Yahnke?
Over the eight years I have gotten to know Dowling & Yahnke before joining the firm, three things stood out to me with every member of the team. First, the unwavering commitment to always doing the right thing, for clients and employees alike. Equally compelling for me is the scientific approach the firm takes in managing clients' money, ensuring decisions are based on robust academic theory and empirical evidence. Being able to tune out the noise and focus only on the things you can control is one of the first steps in achieving peace of mind, while navigating the complexity and inherent uncertainty of today's capital markets. Finally, the diversity and quality of the entire team make the firm stand out. For me, that translates into an opportunity for continuous learning and the confidence that I will be able to bring to the table whatever resources are necessary in helping my clients.
What is your favorite place in San Diego?
We know there are so many new spots for us to discover, but we already have a favorite: The San Diego Zoo. It is an amazing place for the whole family. We love seeing our daughters marvel at animals, big and small. They ask us the funniest questions about them and even have imaginary conversations with their favorite ones. For us parents, it's an opportunity to take in the scenery, remind ourselves how amazingly diverse our planet is, and perhaps get inspiration for one of our next trips.
What is your favorite family tradition?
With my wife having been born in Thailand and me in Romania, we started traveling with our daughters from a young age so we can all get comfortable exploring the world together. Once a year, we try to go on a long trip if not overseas, then to a new place in the U.S. We want our daughters to grow up appreciating diversity, understanding the world we live in, and where they will want to find their own place in it.
What is your favorite hobby?
I like to use my imagination and engineering skills to create things that make the most of our home. Some of the projects I enjoyed included making furniture, installing hardwood floors, creating a secret room under the staircase, and building a tool shed. For me, seeing something that I created with my own hands, that we use every day, and that in a small way makes our life a little bit better, is very rewarding and a source of energy and inspiration for the next project.
