Why did you become a financial advisor?
As the son of an ER nurse, I saw first-hand the positive impact of medical professionals on their patients and thought myself destined to become a doctor. My interest in economics and finance led to a different path, where I have the opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting impact on people’s lives. Every day, I help clients find solutions to complex financial issues and navigate difficult situations. The problem-solving aspect to this profession has always intrigued me and keeps each day different from the rest. I thoroughly enjoy engaging in discussions with clients on a variety of topics, including investments, retirement income, tax and charitable strategies, employer stock and stock options, and executive compensation. Over the years, the relationships with clients stand out as the single most rewarding aspect of my career. Whether a joyous occasion (such as reaching a retirement goal, selling a business, sending a child off to their top college of choice), or a challenging life event (such as an employment transition, loss of a family member, going through a divorce), I relish the opportunity and responsibility to serve as a reliable and trusted advisor.
What quality of yours makes you best suited for what you do?
Patience. When money is involved, there can be a tendency to make decisions emotionally and in a vacuum. When it comes to investing, patience and discipline are rewarded. I find myself fortunate to serve in the position of thoughtfully walking through important financial decisions in my clients' lives.
What is your favorite vacation destination?
Traveling the world has been a passion since backpacking through Europe after high school graduation. Most recently, my wife and I explored the Czech Republic and the wine regions in Austria. Whether it is a trip to South America, Europe, or Asia, cuisine tends to drive our travel itinerary!
What is the best concert you ever attended?
Tough question. During our time in Washington, D.C., we lived ten blocks from the famed 930 Club and attended more concerts than we can count! Always count me in when The Lumineers, Mumford & Sons, or The Head & the Heart come to town.
Which hobby are you most passionate about?
My yoga practice. While I love most sports and any opportunity to get outside in San Diego, yoga provides balance for my mind and body. This uninterrupted time in my day allows me to focus in on the important things in life.
I am happiest when:
I am with my wife and two boys. I married the love of my life and our active boys keep us moving and on our toes. I particularly adore the joy on their faces when savoring a pool day or visit to Torrey Pines State Beach.
